I wrote it on a training course about upgrading to the latest version of Hewlett-Packard's Unix product, HP-UX 10.
Of course, this does not represent HP's view on the subject...
I woke up dis mo'nin
Thinking I'll get de upgrade done by tonight, yeah,
Well I was a fool dis mo'nin'
Thinking I'll get de upgrade done by tonight.
Cos dere ain't no chance of succeedin'
Even if I load up HP-UX Lite.
Well I snoop'd roun' de system
Lookin' for pathnames dat'd changed,
Well I went snoopin' round dat system,
Lookin' for pathnames dat'd changed,
Oh I tells ya dis for certain -
It's enough to make a man deranged!
I got dem blues real bad,
I got dem Upgrade to 10 blues!
I got dem blues oh so bad,
I got dem Upgrade to 10 blues!
It frightens de hell outta me
To think of de data I stand to lose!
Well at 3am on Tuesday
My scripts were edited just so,
It weren't 'til 3am on Tuesday
That my scripts were edited just so.
So I ran swinstall
Pointin' to the nearest depot.
Ma volume groups was rattlin'
As all that software was copied on,
It set ma volume groups a-rattlin'
When all that software was copied on,
For forty minutes I had ma heart in ma mouth
Starin' at de console while it carried on.
I got de blues real bad,
I got dem Upgrade to 10 blues!
Woh I got de blues real bad,
I got dem Upgrade to 10 blues!
To be a sys admin at a time like this
Hell, it ain't what any man'd choose!
So now I got a system,
An' I can't find a damn thing any more;
Ah'm confused by ma system
'Cos I can't find a damn thing any more -
So I'm packing my laptop an' mobile phone
An' making a bee-line for the door...
Leavin' that system dumpin' its core...
Ain't comin' back roun' here no more!
