Lavender Wine

This song was inspired by Ray Bradbury's The Silver Locusts about Man's colonisation of Mars.

The melody is a setting of "Aitz khayim hee" - a Jewish hymn sung when the Torah is put in the Ark at the end of the Reading of the Law.

This song is on my tape.

By a dusty sea the crystal towers of home
Are broken and silent, dead through the seeds you've sown.
A dozen silver locusts lie dead on the sand;
The tattered sails of sand-ships bear no one across the land.

Oh why did you come here to sieze and destroy,
Your bright space-ships from red skies descending;

No more are rivers liquid with lavender wine;
No more are left to comfort a grief like mine.
