The original intent behind Central Casting was to form a group of experienced roleplayers who would travel from MUSH to MUSH and play bit-parts or temporary characters. But it has been modified over time, and now consists of a mailing list which anyone can join, in order to receive advertisements, descriptions of upcoming events, plots, or specific roles that need filling. The binding factor of the group is that we're all interested in roleplay for its own sake -- not necessarily to play all-powerful characters that take over a TP or an entire MUSH, but to enhance a story, bring a little new light to a MUSH, or help out with a TP to benefit a MUSH's regular players. Many of the parts advertised are bit parts or temporary PCs or NPCs -- essentially "filler" or "secondary" characters who are not destined to steal the spotlight. The important thing to members of Central Casting should be the roleplay, not the prospect of taking center-stage. Central Casting is also perfect for the "part-time MUSHer" -- those players who don't necessarily have the time or energy to invest in a full-time character, but who still enjoy MUSHing enough to stay on the fringes. There is no obligation to sign up or to even participate; you can simply browse the e-mails you receive and decide, on your own, if any of the events or roles are worth your consideration.
